The LSRA is pleased to publish measures to ensure barristers are paid in a timely manner. The measures were developed and agreed by The Bar of Ireland and the Law Society, with the LSRA.
These measures directly support one the LSRA’s recommendations aimed at improving access to the legal professions.
In our Breaking Down Barriers report, published in January 2024, we set out 32 recommendations to address the economic and other barriers faced by aspiring and early-career solicitors and barristers.
Among these, recommendation 24 called for relevant stakeholders to collaborate on measures to ensure that barristers are paid fees in a timely manner.
The obligations set out in the measures form part of the respective Codes of Conduct that apply for both solicitors and barristers.
