For Law Professionals
In this section, solicitors and barristers can find useful information on how we regulate the professions and set standards, how we are funded, and how we handle complaints.
How We Handle Complaints
We provide an independent, fair, and impartial service that helps resolve complaints with legal practitioners – both solicitors and barristers. You can find information here about what to expect if a complaint is made against you.
Your Legal Costs Duties
Solicitors and barristers are required by law to supply clients with clear and easily understood written information about the costs of the legal services being provided. Learn more about your legal costs duties.
What Your Levy Is For
As regulated legal professionals, solicitors and barristers pay an annual levy to the Legal Services Regulatory Authority. You can find more details here about how the levy works and what it means for you.
Roll of Practising Barristers
Barristers who provide legal services must have their name included in the Roll of Practising Barristers which the LSRA maintains. You can search the Roll and find out how to join it.
Limited Liability Partnerships
Partnerships of solicitors who are registered with the Law Society of Ireland may apply to the LSRA for authorisation to operate as Limited Liability Partnerships or LLPs. You can learn more about LLPs and how to seek authorisation as one.
Professional Codes
The Authority may issue professional codes of practice where necessary to set and improve standards in legal services provision. You can find out more about our work in this area and stay up to date with our consultations.
Barristers’ Insurance
Practising barristers are required by law to have Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII). On this page you can learn more about PII and your obligations under the Legal Services Regulation Act 2015 and the PII Regulations 2019.
Applications for Senior Counsel
Barristers and solicitors are entitled to apply for a Patent of Precedence. The grant of a Patent entitles legal practitioners to use the title of Senior Counsel. Find out more about the application process including how and when to apply.
