The LSRA has published its fourth six-month progress report, covering the period from April 2026 to September 2026, outlining the significant work being done by the professional bodies — the Law Society of Ireland, the Honorable Society of King’s Inns and The Bar of Ireland — to address barriers facing aspiring and early career solicitors and barristers.
The latest report highlights the professional bodies’ ongoing initiatives, their collaboration with the Courts Service to enhance supports available for members of the legal professions with disabilities, and the work carried out by The Law Society of Ireland and the Honorable Society of King’s Inns to put in place structures to gather data on diversity from trainee solicitors and student barristers undertaking their training courses.
Further work is underway to develop new accreditation standards for legal professional programmes enabling eligibility to the professions of barrister and solicitor, including designing competency frameworks for graduate professional legal education programme providers, training solicitors and barristers. In the coming months, the LSRA will open a public consultation inviting submissions from stakeholders on the development of the competencies.
The Breaking Down Barriers progress reports track the developments to implement the 32 recommendations as set out in the LSRA’s Breaking Down Barriers Implementation Plan published in September 2024.
